As I mentioned in an earlier blog, my friend Cyndee helped us get a condo in Kauai for a fabulous price through her timeshare. It was called Hanalei Bay Resorts, and it's on the north shore. The room itself was nothing fancy, but it was big and had a kitchen. This came in handy for making breakfast and packing lunches. Here's the view from one of our 2 balconies - you can see coconut trees in the middle and the mountains on the other side of the bay in the distance.
The rest of the resort, however, was gorgeous - lots of tropical plants and waterfalls everywhere.

One thing I loved about Hawaii was that so many places were inside/outside with no walls (including sections of the airports!). The resort was like that - the lobby had a roof but no walls, and it all just flowed in and out. It felt very relaxed and casual.
We loved the hot tub and went in it almost every night (it felt especially good after our 8 mile hike, but more about that later).

There was a short walk from the resort down to the beach .
The path ended at Hanalei Bay. We saw lots of fish jumping out of the water here.
