Sometimes we go to the snow over President's Day weekend, but there's no snow this year because of the drought. So we had a long weekend to relax and play close to home. On Saturday we went to a park for Spencer to hide a multi-cache. Of course the boys ended up playing on and around the bridge, and I had fun taking pictures of them.
He hid three caches, and the last one is really cool. You have to add water for it to float to the top of a pvc pipe. That's why he hid it by the lake. The clue is: just add water.
On Monday we hiked to the top of Bishop's Peak in San Luis Obispo. Dave had done it before, but we hadn't. It was a cool hike, and they found 6 geocaches (plus 2 in the Costco parking lot afterwards while they were waiting for pizza). That was a new 1-day record!
There was only 1 he couldn't find. It was halfway up the mountain, and he had to climb a bunch of boulders to get to it.
This was a couple weeks after we finally got some rain, and there was a slight green hue to the hills. We went down to SLO this past week after even more rain, and it was even greener. We've never been so SO grateful for RAIN!!
It had a great view from the top. I was a little nervous, though, because there was a plaque in memory of a 20 year old man who died a few years ago when he went off the path and fell to his death. Yikes!
The kids did really well, but Chloe got sad on the way up and had to eat lots of M&M's. Thank goodness for trail mix.
Nathan and some of his boys went with us. It was a party!
Good job holding up the rock, Peter!
There were lots of people there that day. It's a very popular hike!
One of the geocaches they found looked exactly like a cow pie and was surrounded by a bunch of real cow pies. That was an all-time favorite cache for them!
The kids pretended they were skiing on the way down. Maybe next year there will be snow again, and then they can do the real thing.
