Tyler and Dallin went to day camp a few weeks ago, and I helped out one day. My friends Amy and Cyndee and I ran the skills station, which Spencer tells me was always the most boring one for him. We managed to make it really fun though.
We did communications. First they made quill pens from goose feathers, and then they made ink from blackberries (mixed with vinegar and salt) and used it to write letters and secret codes.
Spencer helped with me, and he had so much fun. In fact I left at lunchtime because I didn't want Chloe to be out in the heat all day, but he stayed until the end. Cyndee's son Sean helped too, and they're good friends.
After they were done with their feather pens we played charades and spelled their names using sign language.
Spencer got to meet up with his brothers during lunch. They had a remote control airplane show that day.
This was Dallin's first year at cub scout day camp, and he LOVED it. In fact he was disappointed it was only 1 week. He was hoping it would last half the summer.
The last day was skits and awards. Dallin's group did 10 Little Monkeys, and Dallin was the mamma (see, he's got a phone in his hand to call the doctor). No one else wanted that part, but Dallin made it hilarious with his wig, apron and expressions.
What a crack-up!
Poor Tyler was very disappointed that his den leader thought the skit was actually supposed to be about scouting. The kids tried to convince him it was supposed to be funny, but he wouldn't budge. So they had to list the 12 core values of scouting and take turns reading paragraphs about each value.
This was Tyler's last year at day camp, which he's really bummed about. They had rock-climbing, a bounce house obstacle course, fire truck spraying them, archery and BB gun shooting, crash simulator with CHP officers, tons of arts and crafts and science (making ice cream, dissecting owl pellets), Zoo-to-You and R/C airplanes. Spencer's looking forward to being a den chief next year!

What is a Den Chief? What creative ideas!! Love it!
a den chief is an older scout (13 and up) who leads a group of cub scouts and helps with day camp.
