Maui - Day 1

Dave and I went to Maui for our fifteenth anniversary. We had such a fabulous time! We had a direct flight out of San Jose for only $380 round trip. Nice! Our flight left at 8:00 in the morning (we stayed in San Jose the night before) and arrived in Maui at 10:30. I love Hawaiian Airlines. They still give you free meals, and all the female attendants wear flowers in their hair.

We stayed in three different places in Maui so we could experience more of the island. We were able to check in early to our bed and breakfast in Lahaina. It was called Maui Guesthouse, and it was wonderful! I kept thinking, "Mom and dad would love this place!" The hosts were super nice. They gave us ice cold lemonade when we arrived and suggested a good place for lunch. They made all our reservations for us (snorkeling trip, luau) with a 10% discount.

We had a very private lanai with our own Jacuzzi. I woke up early (jet lag), and came out to listen to all the beautiful tropical birds.

The lunch suggestion was excellent. It's called Aloha Mixed Plate, and it was super cheap and delicious. It's right on the water, owned by the same people who run The Old Laihana Luau next door. We got a mango strawberry smoothie, a mixed plate (chicken, beef, and fish) and a very tasty noodle dish.

Then we had to get right in the water. We changed into swimming suits and went snorkeling!!

We went to Kapalua beach, which was very nice. The water wasn't too clear, but we were thrilled to see our first two sea turtles! They were totally oblivious to us and let us swim all around them.

That green, orange and blue fish in front of it is a cleaning wrasse. It cleans the sea turtle.

We saw sea turtles two other days, and I had a little thrill of excitement every time! It never got old.

As you can see, Dave took his GoPro along. These are called convict fish. For dinner that night we went to Pineapple Grill, which was amazing. Frommer's says if you only have one night to spend in Maui, you should go there for dinner. We especially liked the seared ahi and pineapple upside-down cake with caramel sauce. Wow!
