Happy Father's Day

We gave Dave a couple of rock climbing harnesses (1 adult and 1 child) for Father's Day this year. He's been slowly adding to his rock climbing gear over the past few years (it's not cheap), and he finally has enough stuff to take us rock climbing without having to borrow anything from friends. So we all went rock climbing last Saturday to try it out.

First he hiked around to the top of the rock and attached the rope to the anchor, then he repelled down. This took a little while, so the boys kept themselves busy climbing on the lower part of the rock and getting into poison oak despite repeated warnings. At least it isn't as bad this time around.

Dallin went first, since Spencer & Tyler got to do it at cub scout day camp.

This was his first time making it to the top of a climb. He went up pretty fast, but it took him awhile getting back down because it was hard for him to lean back and relax so he could repel down. He kept yelling, "Can someone please say a prayer for me down there?"

He got it all figured out (we attached the blue tail to the little guys to help pull them down), and he even went up again later.

They did rock/scissors/paper to see who got to go up next, and Spencer won.

He got to try out the new harness. This one is for big kids, and he liked it way better.

This was Brennan's first time rock climbing, and he was so excited.

However he only got about 5 feet off the ground before he got scared and had to come back down. I think that's about how high Dallin got at his age.

Finally Tyler got to go up. He's an old pro now too, and he went up quick.

But his favorite is repelling back down. He jumped and swang all around, dropping 1 shoe in the process. Leave it to Tyler to come down with one shoe.
Since we now have 2 adult harnesses, I was able to climb next. The 3 big boys all got to do another climb, then Dave taught me how to belay him so he could climb up and take the rope off the anchor. It's fun to think we could just go rock-climbing anytime we want now.
