the Fourth of July

We had a low key 4th of July this year, since it was on Sunday. We usually go to our town's fireworks, but they didn't do them this year due to budget problems. Plus we wanted to keep things simple. We had a bunch of little fireworks Dave got from work over the past couple years, but we couldn't shoot them off at home because they're illegal in our town. So we went to a friend's house, where they are legal. There were a few other families there, and it made me so grateful for my boys. They just ran around having fun while other kids were clingy and scared and fighting over chairs.
The sparklers were a big hit.
And then they shot off the ground displays. Down the street someone was shooting off the big overhead kind, so we enjoyed watching both.

It was a nice change from our usual fireworks experience, especially the easy drive home with no traffic.
