Pumpkin Patches

We went to Avilla Valley Barn on Columbus Day, since the kids were off school. It was kinda crowded, but not nearly as bad as it is every Saturday in October. We went early in the day so Spencer could get back in time for his bass guitar lesson. That meant Dave couldn't go with us, since he had to work, but he was okay with that.

I always try to get individual pictures of all the kids. The huge piles of pumpkins make such great backdrops! They have fun choosing what kind of pumpkins they want in the picture.

Standing in line to buy tickets for the hayride. It used to be free. Oh well.

We also like the old hay rides better, when it was just a flat trailer covered in hay. This place has really grown over the past few years!

But this just about took the cake. They've always had actual pumpkin patches with vines and everything. But this year they mowed down a corn field and scattered store-bought pumpkins all around. Seriously?! We couldn't believe it. At least the kids had fun throwing the old corn like torpedos.

I guess it still makes a nice backdrop.

Here are the huge boxes of pumpkins. They look like the ones from Costco.

As usual, we got three pumpkins this year. They broke up into 3 pumpkin-carving groups. Spencer and Brennan chose this "peanut" pumpkin for their witch face. They may not grow the pumpkins there, but at least they have a huge variety!

When we came home we made caramel apple slices for FHE treats. They were SOOO yummy!

Next we went to River K pumpkin patch with the Cub Scouts. This was a much more traditional pumpkin patch. It was nothing fancy, but I liked the actual vines!

I only took Brennan and Chloe with me to this one because everyone else was sick or busy.

Kate and Kristen in their cute matching outfits!
