Bear Lake, Idaho, days 3 & 4

Day 3 in Idaho was Sunday, so it was a pretty low key day. In fact, this is the only picture I took. We walked to church (we love being able to do that when we visit Utah/Idaho!!) and ate crackers and cheese for lunch (apparently Renee has that every Sunday). Then we did some dutch oven cooking - check out that set up! That Marrisse sure knows her dutch ovens! We had a huge pot of potatoes and 3 different kinds of fruit cobblers - yum!

Monday was our last day there, so we spent the morning packing up and cleaning the bunkhouse. It wasn't too bad - we were out of there by 11:00. Then we headed further up the mountain to Bloomington Lake. This is a place Emily's family always likes to visit when they're at Bear Lake, and we were so glad we went there with them!

There was a beautiful 1/2 mile hike to get to the lake from the parking lot.

It was a little cool there (we were at 8200' after all), and the water was freezing cold (it's a glacier-fed mountain lake!), but the kids still went swimming.

The older kids ran ahead and climbed the cliffs above the lake. Spencer took these next few pics.

Spencer and Andrew, looking rather regal.

But the coolest thing about this lake was the rope swing! When we first arrived, there were tons of people crowded around it. Then it started to rain, and they all left. Then it stopped raining just as quickly, and we had it to ourselves! Tyler and Brennan worked together to get the rope, which was left hanging.

This was so fun! It was a super long rope tied to a tall tree. They climbed up the hill, held on tight, swung out over the water, and dropped into deep water.

Want to know something funny about all these collages? I got them from our videos, and the quality wasn't the best, so I decided to combine them. I tried to do it on my computer, but for some reason I couldn't get them onto the program I usually use (Picasa). So I emailed them to myself, opened them on my phone, made the collages easily with an app, emailed them back to myself, and downloaded them onto my computer. Why are phone apps sometimes so much easier to use than computers?!

After awhile more people showed up, but everyone (who wanted to) got plenty of turns.

The four oldest boys all did it. Brennan really had to build up the courage (it's a big drop!), and then he did it a few times!

It was very nice of the rain to cooperate with our plans!

Hiking back to the car. The weather changes so quickly up in the mountains. Look at those clear, blue skies!

Tons of beautiful wildflowers!

Spencer headed back to the car a little early to search for good mountain boarding paths.

This place was perfect for it! Then when we drove back down the mountain, Dave let Spencer hold onto the back of the Suburban while riding the mountain board, just like in Back to the Future. I think that surprised Spencer a little - what a fun dad!!
