End of the year concerts and open houses

May is a very busy month for end-of-the-year activities! Between the four schools, we had something going on several nights a week.

The middle school open house started with a little band concert. Each of the music classes just played a small sample of their songs. Here's the 6th grade band.

There's Dallin on the trumpet.

And this is the 7th/8th grade band.

There's Tyler on the saxophone. It was super windy, and Tyler's music didn't have quite enough clothes pins. At one point he had to lean way over to see the paper that was blowing sideways. It was pretty funny!

Levi, running away from the Lewis Leopard!

Some classrooms were more decorated than others. This is Tyler's history class.

Next was Spencer's band concert. He played the electric piano for Jazz Band and bassoon for concert band. They were both great concerts!

There's his band teacher, Mr. Galvan, on the right, introducing all the 10th graders in the band. For some reason there aren't many from that grade! Update: Spencer told me it's hard to fit band in for most 10th graders, since they don't have enough electives. He didn't have to take P.E. this year because he was in 2 sports.

I had just gotten my camera, so I took lots of pictures at all these events!

The high school open house was another night. This is Spencer's favorite teacher, Mr. Arnette. He taught English, and this was his last year. He has an awesome deep, Southern accent. We're so bummed he's retiring!

Chloe's favorite thing about the high school open house was petting the animals from the ag department.

The elementary school open house started with a big dance performance. They did it a little differently this year. Instead of each grade performing separately, the whole school went out on the blacktop at the same time. First the lower 3 grades danced together, and then the upper 3 grades danced. Then they all did one together. The good thing was that it was quicker. The bad thing was that it was very crowded and difficult to see everyone.

Here's Levi, getting into the button factory song.

Brennan did the Macarena and Watch Me Nae Nae.

It's so strange that I only have 2 kids in elementary school this year! It has been a great year for these two. They have gotten closer to each other, and Brennan really looks out for Levi. They walk to and from school together every day, and there has been a decrease in the amount of fighting between them. At first Levi wanted me to pick him up from school, so I did that for the first 3/4 of the year. But then he decided he didn't need me anymore, and I felt they were ready to do it on their own.

After the dance we visited the classrooms. Compared to the other schools, these classrooms were super decorated! Tons of art projects on the walls! You gotta love elementary school. This was Brennan's Tundra project. He spray painted a shoe box white and covered it with glitter. We didn't have any toy polar bears or puffins, so we made them out of shrinky dinks! It was a lot of fun. We had some leftover sheets that we used to print the animals, and we cut out the letters for the top. Then he found white rocks, little branches and berries from outside.

We love his teacher, Ms. Yarbourough! She is fun, creative and active. They did so many art and science projects this year! I really liked how she managed his ADD. She told him that whenever he needed a mental break, all he had to do was give her a "peace" sign and he could leave the class to walk around outside for a few minutes. Smart!

Then we headed over to Levi's class. As usual, it was decorated with all their ocean projects (the same as all his older brothers). We love Mrs. Berry too! We get kind of attached to all our favorite teachers, and we were really happy with the ones we got this year.

Then it was time for the big middle school concert. It was a super hot day! And their gym doesn't have air conditioning!

Good job, boys! Dallin's excited to be in advanced band with Peter next year!!
