Hot!

Well it's officially summer, and it sure feels like it. It got up to 107 yesterday (114 down in SLO! Are you guys surviving down there!?) We went to the water park yesterday, and the water felt so good. I wasn't the slightest bit cold when I got out of the water. The AC in the van just stopped working, and even at 5:30 it was so hot in there we were dying. We picked up pizza on the way home and I crashed on the couch after dinner. The heat wears me out. Dave is helping at a service project this morning doing yardwork. I hope no one collapses there.

Yay, Friday

I love it when Dave gets home early from work on Fridays. Yesterday he was home around 1:00 and was even able to make it to Spencer's awards assembly, where he received the Science Award. After school we all headed over to the water park. Since Dave was with us this time, Spencer was able to go down the big water slides. He's just BARELY tall enough this year, and he loved it. I even went down them a couple times, but I had to close my eyes because I was wearing my contacts and water kept spraying in my face. There was trauma when the intertube Dave, Tyler and Dallin were in capsized in 3' deep water, but Tyler eventually cheered up and was finally able to go on the Lazy River.

Then last night we went to a friend's surprise 40th birthday. There was a huge turnout, including about a thousand kids, and he was totally surprised. When it got dark they showed a movie outside. Our boys had so much fun. Unfortunately they didn't get to bed until 10:00, so we threatened them not to come into our room or run up and down the hall until at least 7:00 this morning. But Dallin didn't get the memo, and he was up a little after 5:00, wandering around. I don't know what he did for 2 hours though, because we didn't hear him again until 7:00, when Brennan woke up the rest of the house. I wonder if the time will ever come that we don't consider 7:00 sleeping in.

Plan B

Yesterday we decided to go to the water park after school. It was a beautiful warm day, and I figured it wouldn't be too crowded since school isn't out yet. So we all got swimming suits on and lathered up with sunscreen. But when we got there the place was empty - closed, in fact. Turns out they have limited hours 'till summer. Slightly disappointed, I suggested we go across the street to one of our favorite parks and wade in the man-made pond. The boys loved the idea.
We had just woken Brennan up from his nap. Subdued, he mostly just watched from his stroller. This made my life much easier.

The pond has a fun little bridge and waterfall with lots of huge rocks to climb on. I worried the whole time that someone would slip and get hurt, which is why we haven't done this before. My excuse has always been that we weren't prepared with swimming suits and towels. But this time we were prepared, and they just had a blast.
Even Dallin went right in. I'm telling you, he used to want nothing to do with water, except for baths. At one point, as he was walking up the waterfall, I overheard him say to himself, "I'm one of the big boys. I can do this too!"
Spencer spent the whole time trying to catch fish with his bare hands. The pond is stocked with a ton of huge, really slow goldfish. He even recruited a couple of hispanic boys there to help him trap the fish. He kept almost catching them before they'd slip out of his arms. Finally, he figured out he could hold onto them easier if he stuck his finger in their mouths. Sure enough, he caught one, held it for a little while, then put it back in. That's when I figured we could go home. Afterwards he thanked me profusely for taking them there.

Memorial Day

It didn't really feel much like a holiday since Dave still had to work, but we did manage to have a fun day anyway. And we put the flag up and grilled hamburgers, so that helped us feel festive. This morning we cleaned the house (I love to start the day off with a clean house) and rode bikes. This afternoon we went to the water park, which we bought season passes for. We usually set up our above-ground pool, but I just can't handle the stress of it with Brennan this year. He is a CLIMBER! And he is constantly going outside. I would just never be able to relax with it up. So we thought this year we'd do the water park instead. They just opened it up in our town last year. It was a chilly day, so the place was practically empty. But the boys didn't seem to notice that their teeth were chattering and loved going down all the little water slides. Even Dallin had fun and didn't want to leave, and he has not been much of a water person. He never did want to swim in our pool. So maybe this will help him learn to like water.
