Halloween Craziness

Halloween was a hit, even though our house was a little crazy at the time. These two had a youth dance, so they had their costumes ready nice and early. I didn't order Tyler's Vote For Pedro pin in time (plus they were more expensive than I thought they should be), so we decoupaged it onto an old button. He also borrowed his seminary teacher's bolo tie.

They rediscovered Napoleon Dynamite this past summer, so of course they all wanted to be characters from the movie. It was pretty easy to do - a couple of wigs and shirts, and they gathered the rest from around the house.

They really got into their parts, as usual. So funny!

Levi was going to be the farmer from Napoleon Dynamite, but then we saw the old Ghostbusters movie and wanted to be that instead. I found the costume on sale at K-Mart for $19. It looks like he even got slimed!

He wanted to take the leaf blower trick or treating, but it is really heavy, and I convinced him to take a nerf gun instead.

On the day of the church Halloween party, our house flooded from a hole in the hose going into the dishwasher. Water sprayed at high pressure all night while we were sleeping, flooding the kitchen, dining room, laundry room, living room and the storage room downstairs. We were crazy busy the whole day, moving all our storage into the garage, going through damaged items, drying off pictures, and just getting everything out of the way. We had a huge crew of disaster relief people in our house, removing flooring and setting up fans and dehumidifiers. We could have just said "forget it" and not gone to the party. It was tempting, but the kids really look forward to that party every year! So we put everything on hold, got into our costumes, and went. In case you can't tell, we're Kip and Lafawnduh from Napoleon Dynamite. The man picking up all our wet linens and electronics for cleaning and repair took this picture.

Spencer and Tyler weren't able to go to the party because they had an all-day band competition. It was their first time missing it, and they were bummed! But Tyler worked hard to make the teeth for our trunk-or-treat, and we had to set it up. They made the eyes for our front house windows last year.

Here is Chloe with two good friends from church, Jordan and Dalby. She's always asking to play at their houses!

Dallin dressed up as Napoleon Dynamite, since he didn't know what else to do and Spencer wasn't there. We look pretty dorky! One of my friends told me, "You win tonight, because I can't keep my eyes off you." And lots of people told me they didn't even recognize me. That was fun, and I'm glad we went.

Before we knew it, it was Halloween afternoon and we still hadn't carved our pumpkins. Our kitchen was gutted (they took out the lower cabinets/counters, sink, etc. that day), so Kristen told us we could use her house. They were in Utah at the time. After school, we loaded up our pumpkins and carving tools and headed over to her house.

Chloe got a little pumpkin at preschool, so they carved that one too.

They all knew exactly what kind of faces they wanted. They plan these things long in advance.

Brennan mostly cleaned out this pumpkin, and then Spencer carved it when he got back from his bass guitar lesson.

My good friend Marilyn brought us dinner that night, so we ate quick between pumpkins and trick-or-treating. We also managed to get a few more pictures of us in our costumes. I don't even look like myself! It was fun.

Brennan was Rex Kwon Do from Napolean Dynamite.

Forget about it!!

Dallin didn't know what he wanted to be until the very last minute. He ended up going through the Halloween bins and choosing our pickle costume. So he was Mr. Pickle. Perfect!

Chloe was the cutest peacock ever! She didn't know what she wanted to be, except maybe a princess. So we went to the store to look, and she immediately fell in love with this costume. I was glad because I was ready for something other than a princess! She loves birds, and she's always pretending to be a bird, that is, when she's not being a cat, tiger or squirrel.

She loved the mask, feathers, poofy skirt and gold sparkles. Her other favorite color (besides pink) is blue! Notice how her feathers blend in with the leaves on the tree :)

Levi hunting ghosts.                         The Napoleon Dynamite people.

The whole group.

Levi carved the little pumpkin completely by himself!

Awesome witch!!

Good job, boys!

We all went trick-or-treating together for awhile, which was fun. This was our favorite house.

Ben, Barbara and Margot were visiting from Utah, so they went around with us for a bit too. Margot is a suffragette. So cute! When we reached my parents' house, the oldest 4 boys went off on their own while we stayed and relaxed. Chloe was definitely done at this point. Levi wanted to go out a little more, so I took him out.

Candy trading is serious business! It was a very fun, full day.
